A brief presentation of cosy apartment, builded in 3dsmax, exported via datasmith to Unreal Engine 4.27 for Oculus Quest 2 standalone build, and Unreal Engine 5 to compare real time vs standard rendering (Lumen, path tracing and VRay renders) in terms of quality, composition, light, reflections and time needed to get enough results.
All of the meshes were optimized by reducing polycount (for comparison, VRay 3dsmax full mesh file have 1.2GB, and Oculus VR optimized only 260MB).
Some of the materials were removed and changed to simpler (curtains especialy), for Oculus Quest 2 standalone build, light have been baked, overal finished build took 860 MB of storage.
Even though I cranked some of the lightmaps resolution on certain meshes to red level (Light Map Res 512), Oculus handled this preety well.
All of the interaction have been implemented with help of Advanced Framework plugin from Epic marketplace made by Human Codeable.
